U.A.E. consists of diverse
population mix of over 100 different nationalities that made up
more than a million people. Out of this number, around 82 percent
are expatriates from around the world.
From the figure, Asians comprise approximately
65 percent with majority of that are Indians. UAE Nationals accounts
only around 18 percent, Arab Expatriates (from neighboring Arab
Country) at 13 percent, and numerous other peoples comprise the
remaining 2.5 percent.
U.A.E. Nationals wear the typical Arab dress or
"dishdasha" and a headdress called a "ghuttra".
On the otherhand, Dubai is a cosmopolitan city
and most types of casual dresses can be worn. However, in deference
to local customs and norms it is a good idea not to wear very short
or tight clothing.
Sharjah has the strictest mode of casual dressing.
Wearing short "shorts" on public places even for men are
strictly prohibited.

Normal tourist photography is acceptable but it
is considered offensive to photograph Muslim women. Like anywhere,
before photographing men it is a good idea to ask permission.
Language
While Arabic is the official language, English
is very widely spoken, especially in business. Given the large size
of the expatriate population, several other languages are also used
in everyday life, headed by Hindi, Urdu and Farsi
